In keeping with the healing, purification and love concepts of the month, one of the most important lessons to integrate is that of rigorous honesty in dealing with our feelings.
Being honest can take courage. The root word “cour’ means heart. So communicating with heart is what helps align us with our truest selves and also helps others understand us better.
We often avoid telling the honest truth for fear of hurting others or experiencing some kind of unwanted consequence. But there is a cost to hiding our feelings, especially from ourselves.
Avoiding the truth can often be the cause that leads to illness.
That said, there are many truths such as the truth and a truth which are not the same thing.
What I’m talking about is your truth. After all, no one can deny your feelings. They’re yours alone and are not open for debate.
If we let the real truth out then might we have to change something? And if we don’t feel ready for that, then isn’t it better to wait to tell the truth?
Maybe, but we must still honor the truth if only to ourselves, at least at first.
Talking about these things with a trusted friend, coach or therapist does help you look at other possible options and solutions because we often confuse truths and do not realize that the perceptions we hold might be covering up other important issues.
A simple practice of noticing what you say yes to– is a good place to start.
If you have any hesitation or physical reaction when you say yes to something you don’t want to do, this is an opportunity to tell the truth and make a correction.
One purpose of healing is to establish a course correction that improves the quality of life.
If we continue to indulge in the same habits, patterns or mindset that led to a disruption of health in the first place, then even if symptoms are removed temporarily they will likely return.
Adjusting attitude and lifestyle goes a long way toward progress in healing but we have to be honest about where our attitude and lifestyle is derived from and how we feel about it.
