As we wind down another year’s journey, it might be a good idea to re-orient ourselves to our personal North Star.
The North Star, also known as Polaris, has been a navigational tool for centuries, especially for those at sea. It’s the one bright star that does not move in the sky and thus allows us to orient to what is North and then thus, know where we are.
Symbolically, the North Star gives us guidance and direction to stay true to ourselves.
It is the thing by which you orient.
We live in a world with so many opinions, distractions, and possible “truths”.
Not everything we hear or are told these days is true, or even relevant to us, and it’s becoming harder every day to distinguish what is true.
This is why paying attention to our “inner knowing” has never been more necessary.
We can often look at the night sky and locate Polaris and other constellations when they are visible, which can help us stay more connected to the mysteries of life. But what I’m referring to here when I speak about your personal North Star, are the very touchstones of your life.
This might be an animal or a child, a spouse, a place, or a particular ritual you do. A meditation practice, or cooking. It could be anything that connects you to Spirit, God, Goddess, or the Universe.
So how do we know if we are aligned with our North Star? The body gives clues.
If it isn’t aligned, it doesn’t usually feel good in the pit of our stomach or throat typically.
This is a red flag moment.
People have become way too impatient to get answers immediately because of technology. It’s become a bad habit now, but we have every right to pause, reflect, sleep on it, or whatever, before giving our consent or reply.
What would your North Star tell you to do?
Toward the end of each year, I like to do a personal year-end review. And think about the new seeds (ideas) I wish to germinate for the coming year.
The Winter Solstice is coming up in a few days and might be the perfect time to do this.
Also, I intend to identify how my North Star shows up for me so I can tune into it more.
Remember to always follow your own true path, even if at times it seems dark. Look toward your North Star to light the way.
Winter Blessings.
