We all know that meditation is healthy but often we don’t find the time for it.
There is a ton of research on all the benefits of a regular meditation practice especially in reducing stress but also in helping with many other physiological issues such as high blood pressure and heart problems for example.
Not everyone needs to sit on a cushion in total silence to reap these benefits. There are many different ways to approach your practice of meditation and it can change.
I like to review my morning routine seasonally because of life’s many changes.
The temperature outside, the time of the sunrise, my wake-up time, etc. may require something new to make a consistent practice that fits in easily to daily life.
Some people prefer to listen to a guided meditation on their phone. Some folks are more traditional and focus on the breath while they train their brain to quiet rambling thoughts. You may enjoy a walking meditation or ride your horse if you have one.
Sitting quietly before all the hustle and bustle of the day is a great way to start your day. You can combine this with doing a gratitude practice as you enjoy your coffee.
There is no perfect way to meditate but intention is required.
During the hot Summer months, I incorporate watering as my morning meditation practice. When I first arise I’ll make a pot of tea and then go outside to water. This is usually before sunrise so the air is cool and perfect for deep breathing. While I breathe I water and think about all the things I’m grateful for.
When I’m done watering I’ll go back inside to get my tea and take it back outside where I can sit quietly and enjoy the sound of birds and watch the sun rise. Lately, I’ve been doing this with a loving kindness meditation and then I’ll think about the three things I want to see accomplished for the day. All of this takes a little under an hour. (including the watering)
The morning is the best time to do this for me but you may only have a short time to devote in the morning and you can take time later in the afternoon. A simple prayer with your coffee may work. There is no right or wrong here. You may prefer to do a longer ritual later but try to do it at the same time every day so it becomes routine.
This is YOUR practice.
Taking time to focus on this kind of special inward journey every day will make a difference in your health, attitude and perspective.
Don’t NOT do it because of time.
Make time for you Goddess.
