This time of year,
the Earth is settling down
creeping toward Winter
trees give most of their leaves
to the ground
nights chilly and dark
this time of year…
November is full of mixed feelings for me. There is anticipation for wintertime, sadness for loved ones now gone, and gratitude for the friends and family who will soon be joining us for the holiday season.
Might as well surrender to it all!
I can’t help but notice the changes of the season, and yet there is a restlessness that I feel and experience during this transitory time.
In the US, we prepare for Thanksgiving. And it is always a good idea to focus on what we are grateful for and what we do have, or even had.
But family gatherings can be stressful too. Again, it can be a mixed bag.
Maybe this year will be different. We can choose to make it different if we want.
Traditions can be honored, changed, modified, or thrown out the window entirely.
We do have a choice about these things.
That said, It is sometimes hard to let go of something or someone before we know what will happen in the future. We humans do like to know! But it isn’t always possible to know.
Instead, we could trust more. Trust that Mother Nature knows. Because life is as predictable as the rhythm of the seasons.
That’s it.
Find comfort in the season you are in. Notice what the Earth is telling you.
Listening to the Earth can help you make changes from a deeper wisdom.
She may tell you to make soup or put another log on the fire. Or maybe just sit quietly with a cup of hot chocolate. Pluto has just moved into Aquarius (the water bearer) so maybe bundling up and paying a visit to the ocean or some other body of water would serve.
This is not a time to be on autopilot and do the same things you have always done if they aren’t working well for you.
Goddess knows.
